before heading out.

You’ve got the right idea, but the timing’s off. Antihistamines disrupt the allergy-causing molecules in your bloodstream, halting the allergy cascade process midstream. But it takes a while for them to take full effect. They’re most effective if you take them regularly, or three to five hours before coming into contact with an allergen. Since pollen is often highest in the morning, try this strategy: Take non-drowsy antihistamines at breakfast, and head outside midday.
