Allergy Tips

What two substances in onions
help block allergy symptoms?

One you already know about: vitamin C. Onions are rich in the vitamin, as are citrus fruits and their juices, broccoli, berries, dark greens and mangoes. Recent studies suggest that vitamin C may be effective at treating allergies by lowering histamine levels in the bloodstream. The other compound found in onions, especially yellow onions, is quercetin, which like vitamin C is also an antioxidant. Supplements of quercetin have been demonstrated to block substances involved in allergies.
