The most common side effect of anticoagulants is bleeding. Symptoms of overdose can be similar to the medication’s side effects, but are usually more severe. Patients should notify their physician immediately if they notice any unusual bleeding. Symptoms of internal bleeding include:
- Abdominal pain or swelling
- Black stools
- Blood in stools, urine or vomit or when coughing
- Blurred vision or bleeding in eyes
- Chest pain
- Confusion
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Nausea or vomiting
- Headache
- Joint stiffness, swelling (edema) or pain
- Fainting (syncope)
- Sudden weakness
- Shortness of breath
- Numbness or paralysis of the arms, legs or face
