Elderly use issues with anticholinergics

Individuals over the age of 60 can experience an increased sensitivity to this type of medication. This sensitivity can result in more pronounced side effects as well as a higher rate of occurrence. Because these medications can produce drowsiness, dizziness and lightheadedness, older users should be particularly careful when operating a vehicle.

Elderly individuals are also more likely to experience:

  • Confusion or memory loss
  • Constipation
  • Unusual excitement
  • Restlessness or irritability

Elderly individuals are at a higher risk of developing glaucoma from this treatment and should immediately contact a physician if they experience any type of eye pain while taking the medication.
