C-Section, Endometriosis, & Fertility

By:
Mark Perloe

Question :

My wife is 33 weeks pregnant and suffers from endometriosis. She may have to have a caesarean delivery. I'd like to know whether this is likely to impair her future fertility, in view of her endometriosis.

-- Paul

Answer :

The endometriosis should play no role in her requiring a cesarean section, and rarely does a C-section interfere with endometriosis. So the only recommendation is to be aware that pregnancy is not a cure for endometriosis. Hormonal suppression with birth control pills or DepoProvera may be a good idea until you wish to conceive again.
