I've been having treatment for breast cancer -- lumpectomy and node dissection, stage 2b, node positive (1 from 14 taken), now in round 2 of chemo to be followed by Taxol and radiation. Otherwise I'm in good health. Because I have a family history of cancer, I have always had a melanoma screening and a Pap smear every year. My annual date for these has passed during all these other treatments. Should I schedule them as usual or will my treatments also address any concerns in those areas? I'd hate to go through treatment for breast cancer and end up missing a melanoma or cervical problem in the meantime.

Your oncologists (medical and radiation) and surgeon are focusing on your breast cancer; primary care is not their field. You certainly should see your regular doctor(s) for both Pap smear and skin examination. It is important to not lose sight of your general health while you treat your breast cancer. And you are correct: It would be tragic to miss an early, treatable cervical or skin cancer. Please call and make those appointments.
