Cervical Health: What is Keratosis?By:
I had a thin-prep test and the results came back with keratosis of the cervix. I cannot find any articles on this result. I am supposed to repeat the test in three to four months, but I would like some information in the meantime.

Keratosis means there is an area of thickening, with several cell layers piled one on the other, akin to a scab. Keratosis may be a temporary response to an irritation or infection, but sometimes it overlies an area of abnormality.
Most of the time, we suggest that you have another Pap in a few months, in case this thickening is due simply to inflammation or another benign condition. If the keratosis is still there a few months later, a colposcopy (examination of the cervix using magnification) may be recommended to make sure the keratosis is not covering up a more serious problem.
