Cooking & Kitchen Tips: Food Safety

  • When buying fish, look for firm, moist fillets and avoid fish that is bruised, yellow, brown or strong-smelling.
  • Defrost sealed frozen food in the refrigerator on a plate instead of on your kitchen counter to prevent bacteria.
  • Don't refreeze things once they've been defrosted, like ice cream for consistency and meat or fish for safety.
  • Don't use marinade that the meat was left in for basting. Instead, make extra beforehand to use when you cook.
