Questions for your doctor

Preparing questions in advance can help patients to have more meaningful discussions with their physicians regarding their conditions. Patients may wish to ask their doctor the following questions related to C-reactive protein (CRP) testing:

  1. How high is my CRP level?

  2. Would I benefit from an hs-CRP test?

  3. Should I get it tested again?

  4. What factors may be contributing to elevated CRP?

  5. Are there any medications I can take to reduce CRP?

  6. What effect does this have on my risk for a cardiovascular event?

  7. Should I begin treatment for prevention of a cardiovascular event?

  8. What lifestyle changes can I make to lower my CRP level? Exercise?

  9. I've read that some foods, such as refined sugar, are "pro-inflammatory." Does this mean that my CRP level might be elevated in response to my diet? Will changing my diet reduce my CRP level?

  10. If I lower my CRP level, will I reduce my risk of a cardiovascular event?

  11. Are there any dietary supplements or nutrients that might help lower my CRP level? Conversely, are there any I should avoid?
