Delay in Periods after Lupron

Question :

I have been on Lupron for six months to treat stage III endometriosis. I had my sixth and final injection eight weeks ago and still have not started my menstrual cycle. Is this normal? How long does it usually take to start having a period again after coming off Lupron treatment? I am very anxious to start trying to conceive again and am getting very discouraged.

Trisha

Answer :

After Lupron therapy for endometriosis, there is often a delay until menses resumes. The duration of Lupron's suppression of the pituitary gland stimulation of the ovary can vary between individuals. While most women with normal cycles will resume normal cycles six to eight weeks after the last dose, others will take longer.

You can often pick up the return of normal ovulatory cycles by monitoring basal body temperatures (BBTs). If your BBT charts remain flat (no ovulation) by three months after your last dose, a further evaluation is needed to rule out other causes of abnormal menstrual cycles.
