Detoxifying After an Indulgent Weekend

Question :

I had a weekend get-together and went overboard with junk food -- way overboard! Are there specific foods that will help me eliminate toxins and fat from my body?

Answer :

It's been said for ages that lemon juice helps with detoxifying. I have no idea whether it's true from a scientific standpoint, but sipping lemon water (with no sugar, or with stevia -- a sweet, herbal, no-cal sweetener) has improved the digestion of several of my patients.

Juice fasting (it's not really fasting, since you're still "eating" food), especially with vegetable juices, helps the body digest, since the juices are loaded with phytonutrients, or plant goodies, that help the system repair.

In order to burn fat, it must first be mobilized, and then it must be transported into the mitochondria, or energy factories, of the muscle cells. Mobilization is enhanced by the lipotropics (choline, inositol and methionine), and transportation is enhanced by L-carnitine (the only body chemical to do that).

Good Health,
A.N. Spreen, M.D.
