Eight Tips for Fitness-Class Survival!

By: Liz Neporent

5. Find your mark. Choose a spot in the classroom where you can easily see the instructor. To avoid the elbowing that occurs as everyone vies for a choice spot, get to the class a few minutes early.

6. Mirror, mirror on the wall. If all you see in the mirror is a reflection of how clumsy you feel, it's time to readjust your thinking. Use the mirror as a tool to help you adjust your body alignment and move correctly.

7. Pass no judgments. Know this: As a group class neophyte, you WILL make mistakes. It's okay! Allow yourself to be a beginner. And accept that a little stumbling over your feet is just part of the learning process.

8. Don't give up. Ask the instructor for feedback during and after the class to help speed up your improvement. Even if you're no physical phenom, stick with it. You'll get better. We promise.
