Measure Success without the Scale

By:
Jeffrey Wilbert

Question :

In the last two years I lost weight several times with various medications and eating plans, but gained the weight back each time. About three months ago I decided to try a simpler approach: I began working out regularly and eating better. While I felt great, the scale did not move. I was discouraged by not seeing results and gave up. What can I do differently? --iVillager tygerlillies

Answer :

You may not have seen results, but you felt them -- and that means a lot! You need to broaden your definition of success to include more than a magic number on the scale. Regular exercise is the best thing you can do for your health, even if it doesn't result in significant weight loss. In addition to exercise, you need to adopt a food plan that you can own and live with, not one that you rebel against.
