Risks of Metabolife

By:
Kelly Shanahan

Question :

Is there is any danger medically to taking Metabolife to increase your metabolism to help you lose weight?

Eileen

Answer :

Yes. Metabolife contains ephedra, a herb that is kin to ephedrine, a heart stimulant. Ephedrine is used to increase blood pressure, and ephedra may have the same effect. Some people with undiagnosed hypertension and heart disease have had serious elevations in their blood pressure due to Metabolife and similar products. Heart attacks or strokes could result. Some of the medications in this category have been pulled off the shelf due to the dangers.

Never take any medication or herbal supplement without consulting with your doctor. Herbs may be "natural", but that does not mean they are safe in all circumstances, for all people.
