The Dream Team: Beach Ready

Each month iVillage poses a different question to our Dream Team of experts. Here's what we asked this month: What's your top trick to get a body beach ready?

Jonny Bowden, MA, CN, CNS

My trick for the most results in the least amount of time is actually two tricks. One has to do with eating and the other with working out. First, the eating program: Take a page from stage one of any of the better low-carb diets ‑- Atkins, South Beach or Fat Flush, it doesn't really matter ‑- and cut out all white stuff for a few weeks, including sugar, flour, cereal, bread, pasta and especially soda. If you really want great results, take dairy, wheat and alcohol off the list as well. Fruit should be limited to one to two portions of berries. Stick to protein, vegetables and fats, such as avocado and butter, and oils such as olive, macadamia and coconut. Never skip breakfast. Keep daily calories to about 1,400 for women and 1,800 for men. Don't eat after 7pm, and drink at least eight but preferably 10 glasses of water. The second trick is the workout program: circuit or interval training only, full body, five days a week. Mix sprints with weight training. Bonus points: two workouts a day, even if the second is only a short one.
