The Hopeful RunnersWhen it comes to working out, I have no self-discipline. I enjoy exercising once I've gotten started, but it's the idea of setting the alarm that wee bit earlier that really kills me. I am a 26-year-old living in Arlington, Virginia, who wants to get fit and get motivated! I work at an nongovernmental organization called the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, on their Central and West Africa team (I have Barack and Bono on my speed dial! Okay, not really!) During the next six weeks, I hope to get into a pattern of exercising that becomes part of my daily schedule and feels as routine as my usual 15 minutes of watching the Today show and yogurt and granola breakfasts do. I've joined the challenge with six women from my Bible study. Our church, Kairos, is part of the Falls Church, located in Falls Church, Virginia, a suburb of DC. We come from all over and have different fitness backgrounds, however we all want to achieve the same things — accountability and self-discipline. Our goals range from wanting to achieve a shorter marathon time to hoping to run a mile without stopping! Learning good eating habits is also important to us — almost all of us live with friends, which means omnipresent wine and junk food at our disposal. We want to develop self-control and train our bodies to crave foods that are actually good for us. We look forward to sharing our experiences with you and learning from each other.
