Trend Alert: Download Your WorkoutsBy: You've downloaded every song imaginable to your iPod to get you moving while you exercise, but you're just not getting the results you want. Well, why not add a top Hollywood fitness trainer to the mix, without having to ever set foot in Hollywood? iTrain is a Web-based program of audio fitness classes you can download to any MP3 player, allowing you to work out with a personal trainer whenever and wherever you like. The site offers 11 fast-paced, downloadable routines such as running, cycling, strengthening and yoga that vary in length from 20 to 60 minutes. Each routine is in real time and offers various levels of difficulty befitting a novice or a pro. The energizing sounds of house, R&B, hip-hop, rock or techno play as the voice of an elite Hollywood fitness trainer eggs you on. A few of the programs offered:
iTrain was cocreated by L.A.-based fitness instructor Grace Lazenby as a way to give people a boost to their exercise routine. "I was always very aware of how excited people were to work out when they had a motivating factor like music," says Lazenby, whose 15-year fitness career includes personally training comedian Sarah Silverman and instructing Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross. "The iPod/MP3 revolution has inspired gym-goers to stay on the treadmill just a little longer. With this in mind, I saw that if we paired the MP3 player and personal training, it would be an incredible solution to people's lack of motivation." The iTrain team includes the "buffest of the buff" (check out the site's photos, at www.iTrain.com, for proof): Heath House, a former gymnast and currently a yoga instructor at Yoga Works and Sports Club L.A.; Keith Irace, group fitness manager at Equinox Fitness in West Hollywood; Nick Narvaez, pro-boxer and former trainer for the NYPD; Lisa Kellogg, professional dancer and choreographer; and Lazenby herself. All of these West Coast workout experts count celebrities among their clientele, like actor Aaron Eckhart and Blues Traveler keyboardist Ben Wilson. Actors Courteney Cox Arquette and Brittany Daniel are among the thousands of subscribers who have jumped on board the iTrain workout. "Each workout is created as a playlist for convenience", explains Lazenby. "For example, iStrength is divided into five body parts: legs, chest, back, arms and abs. This allows users to work a different body part each day or alternate days." A list of equipment that may be needed is provided at the start of each program, and a helpful picture guide for those focusing on yoga and ballet can be downloaded to explain specific feet and arm positions. iTrain also offers workouts for teenagers, including iTeenTrain Hip Hop and iTeenTrain Boxing. The staff is currently developing new programs such as iStrength at Home, iTread Outdoors and iSculpt Core Conditioning. "I realized that customizing music and motivational trainers would create the ultimate solution to a better workout," says Lazenby. "iTrain not only gives users the music and the trainers; it gives them a goal to get to, a finish line." Got a fitness question or comment? Post it on the Latest Workout message board!
