Dietary supplement recalled due to risk of heart attack, strokeSep 10 (HeartCenterOnline) - Manufacturers recalled a
dietary supplement recently because it contained a
substance that can lead to serious health consequences
including heart attack and stroke. The product, called
T3, was distributed in retail stores and
by mail order in 90-count white bottles with black labels.
All lot numbers are affected by this recall.
According to a press release issued September 5, 2001 by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), T3 contains a potent thyroid hormone called triiodothyroacetic acid or TRIAC. No illnesses have been reported to date from T3, but TRIAC may cause serious health complications such as heart attack and stroke.
Individuals who purchased T3 or any products
containing TRIAC should stop taking the supplements
immediately. People experiencing the following symptoms
