Do Guys Just Want Sex?

By:
Peggy Elam

Question :

I am a girl and only 15. If a guy tells me he loves me it basically means he wants sex, right?

A.M.

Answer :

Well, that probably depends on the guy.

Some guys tell girls they love them just to get them to have sex ... and once they've got what they want (OR realize they're not getting what they want), they disappear. I say good riddance to them. Unfortunately, such guys can break hearts if their claims of love are believed. And, of course, they can sometimes leave their former sex partners pregnant or with sexually transmitted diseases.

Other guys truly love their girls and DON'T want to have sex outside of marriage because that's against their religious values, or they don't want to risk pregnancy, etc.

And some guys truly love their girls AND want to have sex. If their feelings are genuine and they respect the girls, they'll continue the relationships whether or not sex -- or intercourse -- is involved. For a while, that is; most relationships begun at 15 don't lead to permanent commitments ... unless the girl gets pregnant. Even in the latter case, the marriage is likely to crumble eventually under the strains of youth, financial hardship and childrearing.

If you're concerned that a guy's declaration of love is really just an attempt to manipulate you into having sex with him, by all means wait to get more deeply involved with him (sexually or otherwise) until you know him enough to determine his true feelings. If he doesn't hang around, or if he tries to pressure or force you into doing something you don't want to do, then he's shown his true colors.
