My husband had a vasectomy six months ago and refuses to go for followup sperm counts. We were extremely fertile before the procedure and he has not ejaculated 12 or more times. Does this mean we still need protection? I am scared to death and my period is late.

Normally by now, no motile sperm would be present in the ejaculate. But I would not rely on that. A repeat semen analysis should be performed. I also strongly suggest you consider marital counseling. The fact that you have had intercourse less than twice monthly, plus his unwillingess to go for a semen analysis to ease your fears, indicate a relationship that may be troubled.
