Great Snacks Under 100 Calories

By: Lindsey Unterberger

Don't let snacking wipe out all of your hard-earned diet results in less than a few minutes flat. By planning ahead, you can satisfy your stomach with snacks that are practically calorie-free. Here are 10 to get you started.

Hard-boiled egg
Snacking on one of these isn't hard to crack. Hard-boiled eggs are easy to prepare, and they provide an excellent supply of protein. Because protein fills you up, you don't have to worry about empty calories in this 78-calorie snack.

Fat-free pudding cups
Craving something sweet that won't derail your diet? At 60 to 100 calories a pop, these creamy treats taste like the real deal. Plus, they're fat free, and you can get sugar-free too.

String cheese
One stick of this childhood favorite is about 80 calories. And besides being a good source of calcium, they're fun to eat. Watch the fat content of the cheese stick you choose, however.

Two tablespoons of hummus on 1/4 slice of pita bread
Though it's low in calories and fat, this snack is big on Mideastern flavor, making snacking so much less monotonous. Prepare an entire pita bread, preferably whole grain, and cut into fourths, for several days' worth of snacks. Other good ways of serving hummus: dip with celery and carrot sticks, or use a dab instead of the yolk-mayo mixture in a deviled egg.

100-calorie cracker packs
These low-cal snacks are all about portion control. Whether you're craving a cheese cracker, graham cracker, wheat crisp or other cracker, there's a choice for you. A typical pack has just a few grams of fat and about 15 to 20 grams of carbs.
