Help for Picky Eaters

The Problem
"I eat everything sweet. I really dislike eating meat, chicken and fish. I eat side dishes mostly, and I guess that is why I have so much weight to lose. So what's a girl who doesn't like much of anything to do?"
--maslin

The Solutions

1. Go tropical
"I have a sweet tooth also. I've tried to work a lot of fruit into my diet to satisfy that: tropical fruits, like mangos, and unsweetened versions of dried fruits, like raisins and dried pineapple."
--stacee

2. Quit sweets altogether
"I quit cold turkey with the sweets, and I haven't had a craving for them yet. I do not eat high-protein, high-fat foods, but I do eat lots of veggies and some high-fiber bran cereal. Also, drink a lot of water, Crystal Light or calorie-free flavored water. It really keeps you full and hydrated."
--erica

3. Be prepared
"When I gain weight, it's because I am a busy student who has to have food NOW and I grab whatever is quickest; now I carry fruits and protein bars with me. Strangely enough, I stopped craving sweets when I stopped eating them. But if you absolutely have to have them, eat something that's sweet but not fattening: 3/4 cup of Cocoa Puffs (100 calories, 1 gram of fat), a fat-free pudding cup or a low-fat chocolate protein bar."

4. Try vegetarian protein
"You don't have to eat animal products to get protein. Beans are flexible, low fat and filling. Peanut butter, nuts and cheese are also good alternatives -- just watch out for the fat content. I eat three moderate meals a day and three small snacks, so I'm eating about every four hours. This has really helped me keep my energy level up."
