Husband Won't See Doctor about FertilityBy: Question : I am 26. My husband and I have been trying to have a child for six years. My doctor says he doesn't see anything wrong with my ability to conceive. My husband won't go to a doctor. I think he is embarrassed because he has unusually small testicles. In a high school physical the doctor sent a note home to his parents to take him to see their family doctor. I am worried that since they ignored the note it has ruined our chance to have children. What can we do? Amy Answer : Any evaluation of male fertility should begin with a semen analysis. Although you say you and your husband have been trying for six years, his unwillingness to participate in the process by having a semen analysis likely goes beyond his embarrassment about testicular size. His reluctance to discuss his health with a physician seems unreasonable in light of your efforts to start a family. I wonder whether his hesitancy to embark on a fertility evaluation may signal relationship issues rather than simply concern about the size of his testicles. It just does not make sense if he is truly concerned about your relationship and having a child. I think both you and your husband need to consider couples counseling.
