Interview with Deepak Chopra: Knowing God
In 1999, best-selling author Deepak Chopra was selected by Time magazine as one of the top 100 icons and heroes of the century. A scientist and a theologian, he is one of the leading authorities on alternative medicine and healing. In his latest book, How to Know God, he explores the idea that the brain is hard-wired to find God and that everyone can experience divinity. In an exclusive interview, iVillagers ask Dr. Chopra about spirituality, science, evolution and more. iVillager cl-bosbaby: Dr Chopra, what makes your book different from the other books on this subject? Deepak Chopra: This book is a new approach to understanding the human nervous system working through evolutionary responses our experience with God. It gives understanding so we can experience God and become intimate with God. iVillager racer48: Why did you choose to call God "he" instead of "it" or another non-personal pronoun, so it would be easier to think of God as pure energy and easier for readers to recognize that they are an aspect of that God energy? Deepak Chopra: In the introduction I mention that I used "he" only because "he" is nether he, nor she, nor it. It is a feeling of infinite intelligence, class and the source of all information, energy, matter and space that structure the universe. It is the infinite potential that orchestrates information. Therefore God is the potential for all that was and all that is. However, for us to relate to him we need to conceptualize as a he or a she. For many, God is a virtual matter. In Sanskrit and Hebrew he is called different names. It really doesn't matter what you call him -- all of the above, or none of the above. page 1 of 7 | Next Page
