Is it Safe to Conceive while Sick?

By:
Mark Perloe

Question :

My husband and I both came down with colds this week. We are trying to have a baby, and I know I'll be ovulating in the next couple of days. What effect does a cold have on egg and sperm production? Will there be a stronger likelihood of defective eggs or sperm? My first pregnancy several months ago ended in miscarriage due to unknown reasons, so I don't want to take any extra risks.

Answer :

Unless you have a fever, the cold should not play an adverse effect on your conception. If you have a fever or rash, you probably do not have a common cold, and you should consider delaying your attempt to conceive.
