Receding gums may indicate gum disease, but may also result from brushing too hard. Dental pain, such as a toothache, may be caused by dental problems. Mouth sores (stomatitis) include canker sores and damage from an underlying condition (e.g., leukoplakia or thrush). Specialized toothpastes can make teeth less sensitive to some of these conditions.
