PMS on the PillBy:
Can you get PMS symptoms (specifically bloating, weight gain and cravings) while on birth control pills? If yes, would I get these the "normal" time of one week before my period, even though that's during the time when I'm still taking active pills? Or should they start only when I start taking inactive pills? I'm on Ortho Tri-Cyclen.

While some women find relief from PMS through use of the pill, others experience side effects that mimic PMS. These side effects of bloating, breast tenderness and moodiness may last the entire month, or may just occur at the usual PMS time in the week or two before the period begins.
If you do experience increased PMS symptoms from the pill, it is usually due to the progestin component of the medication. Changing to a different brand of the pill will often do the trick. If you continue to have PMS symptoms despite several different types of pill, you should discuss other contraceptive options with your doctor as well.
