Scheduling Mammography

By:
Kelly Shanahan

Question :

Does it matter if you have a mammogram before, during, or after your period?

--Margarita

Answer :

A woman's breasts are less tender and less lumpy immediately after her period, so this is the very best time to schedule a mammogram. For this same reason, it is also the best time to perform your monthly breast self-exam.

If you had a mammogram done at another point in your cycle, and if the mammogram was normal, you do not need to repeat the mammogram. However, if there was a questionable area and you need to have another mammogram, then you should schedule it for the time just after your period ends.
