Biography:
Scott Shikora, MD, FACS is currently a Professor of Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine and the Chief of General Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. He is currently serving as President for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
He attended medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He completed his surgical residency and Nutrition Support fellowship at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston and spent four years as a staff surgeon in the United States Air Force.
He is a member of several medical societies and active in leadership in the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition where he is a Past President. Dr Shikora is an Associate Editor of two surgical journals (Obesity Surgery and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases) and a reviewer for several others. He has co-edited three nutritional textbooks and a CD ROM/DVD interactive program on the treatment of obesity, The Multidisciplinary Approach to Bariatric Surgery and Morbid Obesity.
Dr Shikora has also authored numerous book chapters and journal publications and has made hundreds of presentations internationally on nutrition support and bariatric surgery topics.
