Sex: Coping with Husband's Premature Ejaculation

By:
Kelly Shanahan

Question :

How can my husband last longer during sex? He can only go about 30-40 seconds before he is finished. It takes me longer, and usually I end up frustrated.

--C.J.

Answer :

It sounds as if your husband suffers from premature ejaculation. Many men are unable to control their climax and will ejaculate very shortly after arousal. There are means to treat this, usually under the direction of a urologist and/or sex therapist. Therapy often consists of techniques to teach the man to "hold back" by providing a small amount of stimulation, then stopping, then starting again until he is able to delay ejaculating. Also, some doctors are now using medications to treat this common problem.

One thing you as a couple can do now, until he has been evaluated by his doctor or a urologist, is for him to stimulate you (by hand, orally or using a vibrator) until you are close to orgasm. Then he can enter you and, hopefully, you both with be satisfied.
