Sex: Why Am I Leaking Fluid after Sex?

By:
Kelly Shanahan

Question :

Just recently I've started having unprotected sex with my boyfriend. Afterwards I leak something for a few hours. What is this? Could it be his stuff coming back out of me? Is this going to keep me from becoming pregnant?

Jenna

Answer :

Most women will leak sperm and semen after intercourse, especially if they get up right away. This liquidy discharge may last for a few hours, and it is perfectly normal. Many sperm find the cervix and enter the uterus to start their search for an egg within minutes, but many sperm and the seminal fluid remain in the vagina. Since the vagina is open-ended, this fluid comes out. Having unprotected intercourse is always a risk. Make sure that you and your partner discuss your past medical history with each other. You also need to make sure you are ready for all of the responsibilities that come along with being parents.
