Questions for your doctor

Preparing questions in advance can help patients to have more meaningful discussions with their physicians regarding their conditions. Patients may wish to ask their doctor the following questions related to smoking:

  1. How can I tell if I am addicted to smoking?

  2. Specifically, how is smoking affecting my condition?

  3. If I have respiratory problems caused by smoking, is it ok to switch to smokeless tobacco products?

  4. Has the smoking I have done in the past done irreparable damage to my health?

  5. If I quit smoking, how long will it be before I start to notice the health benefits?

  6. What’s the best way to approach my loved one about quitting smoking?

  7. Where can I get help with trying to quit smoking?

  8. What would be the immediate heath consequences if I did not stop smoking?

  9. Could my smoking affect any of the people who live in the same home?

  10. Could smoking cigarettes make it harder for me to get pregnant?
