Biography:

Steven A. King, M.D. is a Clinical Professor at the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. King is board-certified in psychiatry and pain medicine and is a licensed acupuncturist. He received his M.D. from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and earned a master's degree with a concentration in science journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He completed a residency in psychiatry at the University of Maryland Hospital, a fellowship in pain management at the Hospital for Joint Diseases-Orthopaedic Institute, and training in acupuncture at the International College of Acupuncture in New York.

Dr. King serves on the International Association for the Study of Pain Task Force on Taxonomy and chaired the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-IV and DSM-IV-TR committees on Pain Disorders. He is a member of the board of editors of Pain Medicine and previously served on the board of editors of the Clinical Journal of Pain and Geriatric Times and is the author of the Pain Management column in Psychiatric Times. Dr. King has published over 100 papers and books chapters on various aspects of pain medicine.
