Signs and symptoms of stroke

Signs and symptoms of stroke may vary, depending on the area of the brain affected by the stroke. They frequently come on suddenly and may include:

  • Numbness and/or weakness on one side of the body
  • Confusion
  • Difficulty walking or seeing
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Loss of balance
  • Nausea
  • Trouble speaking or understanding speech (aphasia)
