Trying Again after StillbirthBy: Question : My first child was recently stillborn at 40 weeks. One doctor I saw told me to wait at least six months before I try to get pregnant again. Another doctor told me that I could try again in three months. I do not want to risk a miscarriage by trying too soon, and I am confused. How long should I wait? Becky Answer : The first steps before attempting conception again should be to determine the cause of the baby's death, and to make sure all steps are taken to prevent a recurrence. I don't believe there is any credible evidence that shows that there is a difference in miscarriage rates if you wait three months versus six months. However, there is benefit to your health to delay for six months or longer, to ensure adequate nutritional status to support your planned pregnancy.
