What Can I Substitute for Dairy Foods?

By:
Lynn Grieger

Question :

I am lactose intolerant. What are some substitutions I can make for the dairy products listed in the No Time to Diet meal plan? --C.O.

Answer :

You can use lactose-free milk, or try a fortified soy milk substitute. There are also soy cheese and soy yogurt if dairy foods bother you. You could also try taking Lactaid pills with meals that include dairy. These over-the-counter pills contain lactase, the enzyme that breaks down lactose (milk sugars), which most of those who are lactose intolerant are lacking in their systems.
