Why Don't I Have Interest in Sex?

By:
Ruth Westheimer

Question :

I am a 38-year-old woman, happily married to a wonderful man and have two great children. I am completely content with my life except that I have absolutely no interest in sex as opposed to my healthy and active sex life before. My husband tries his best to arouse me but nothing seems to work. I achieve only a mild, unfulfilling orgasm when masturbating. How do I get my sex drive back? Six years is too long to suffer in this way.

Answer :

I could speculate and write paragraphs and paragraphs about what might be happening, but not only do I not have the time, but I still might not get it right. You need to see a sex therapist. Not only can a sex therapist ask questions, but if he or she gives you some homework, the feedback will help them figure out what is going on and how to fix it. A sex therapist might also send you back to your doctor, even if everything seems to have checked out, to ask for specific tests. Even having the sex therapist talk to your doctor might help. So make an appointment as soon as possible so that you can end this six year drought.
