Yeast Infection or UTI?By:
I have had both yeast infections and urinary tract infections. Both seem to have pretty much the same symptoms. I am never sure whether I should treat myself first for a yeast infection or immediately see a doctor. What is the primary difference in symptoms when diagnosing each condition?
Melania
Yeast infections generally cause vaginal itching or burning, often associated with a thick, white discharge that looks a lot like cottage cheese. A urinary tract infection usually causes frequent trips to the bathroom and a burning feeling at the end of urination.
Urinary tract infections usually need to be treated with antibiotics. If you think you may have a urinary tract infection, you should seek medical attention. Drinking large amounts of water can help to flush out the bacteria and minimize symptoms until you can be seen. Cranberry juice, preferably unsweetened, may help get rid of mild infections.
